Frank L. Shaw (1 February 1877-24 January 1958) was the Republican Mayor of Los Angeles from 1 July 1933 to 16 September 1938, succeeding John Clinton Porter and preceding Fletcher Bowron.
Biography[]
Frank L. Shaw was was born in Warwick, Ontario, Canada in 1877, and he was raised in Denver, Colorado and Joplin, Missouri. He worked in the grocery business for thirty years, moving to Los Angeles in 1909 and serving on the City Council from 1925 to 1928, on the County Board of Supervisors from 1928 to 1933, and as Mayor from 1933 to 1938. He presided over one of the most corrupt administrations in the city's history, but he also oversaw the construction of the Los Angeles International Airport, the Los Angeles Harbor, and Union Station. He was recalled in 1938, and he died in 1958.
