Frank D

Frank Durward White (4 June 1933-21 May 2003) was the Republican Governor of Arkansas from 19 January 1981 to 11 January 1983, interrupting Bill Clinton's terms.

Biography[]

Durward Frank Kyle Jr. was born in Texarkana, Texas in 1933, and he was adopted by his stepfather and changed his name to "Frank Durward White". He served in the US Air Force from 1956 to 1961, reaching the rank of captain. He served as director of the Little Rock Port Authority from 1972 to 1973, and, in 1980, he left the Democratic Party to run for Governor as a Republican. Governor Bill Clinton's unpopular increase in the cost of automobile registration tags and President Jimmy Carter's resettlement of Cuban refugees in Arkansas enabled White to defeat the incumbent Clinton, and he required the teaching of creationism and evolution in schools. He lost re-election in 1982, and he worked in banking from 1986 to 1998 and served as Governor Mike Huckabee's Arkansas Banking Commissioner from 1998 until his death in 2003.
