Frank Cullotta

Frank Cullotta (14 December 1938 – 20 August 2020) was a Chicago Outfit enforcer and a close friend of Anthony Spilotro. In 1986, Cullotta had Spilotro whacked after his bosses had decided that they would no longer put up with Spilotro's loose-cannon behavior.

Biography

Frank Cullotta was born in Chicago, Illinois on 14 December 1938, and he began his criminal career as a teenager, graduating from petty theft to burglary, armed robbery, arson, and murder. He became an enforcer for the Chicago Outfit of the American Mafia and became best friends with Anthony Spilotro. In 1979, the two of them killed the informant Jerry Lisner, and they founded the "Hole in the Wall Gang" that same year. This gang committed many high-end burglaries and made large amounts of money, but most of them were arrested during a 4 July 1981 burglary. In 1982, he began to work with the FBI after discovering that Spilotro was planning a hit on him, and Tony Spilotro and his brother Michael Spilotro were beaten with baseball bats and buried alive in an Indiana cornfield by Cullotta and other mob enforcers in 1986. Cullotta would later write a book about his experiences, and he became an underworld historian. He died in Las Vegas in 2020 at the age of 81 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
