Frank Brogan (died 21 November 1920) was the deputy director of the IRA's intelligence wing during the Irish War of Independence. He was one of Michael Collins' senior leaders during the war with the British, and he trained Jimmy Mahon in intelligence after he was transferred from active service. However, he secretly became an informer for the Royal Irish Constabulary with the nickname "Wolfhound", sending his men on useless jobs and saving Collins as a fix by Captain David McLeod to make himself look trustworthy. He attempted to convince Collins that Mahon was the spy, and he later tried to set up Mahon's death in an ambush by Kevin Maloney in County Cork (where Maloney held Jimmy's brother, RIC officer Paddy Mahon, prisoner), but Jimmy killed Maloney and rescued his brother. Jimmy then returned to Dublin and, informed of Brogan's treachery by Joey Bradley, he met Brogan at the Gaelic football stadium on 21 November 1920. There, Brogan took advantage of the start of an RIC attack on the attendees to attempt to escape from Jimmy, but Jimmy shot him in the back. Brogan ran for a moment before collapsing against a wall, and Jimmy decided to let him die of his wounds rather than mercifully finish him off.
