Francis Jardine Bell (28 January 1840-13 February 1927) was the Republican Governor of Nevada from 21 September 1890 to 5 January 1891, succeeding Charles C. Stevenson and preceding Roswell K. Colcord.

Biography[]

Francis Jardine Bell was born in Toronto, Canada in 1840, and he moved to Nevada in 1858 to supervise the construction of a transcontinental telegraph line. He settled in Nevada and telegraphed the state constitution to Washington DC in 1864 before serving as the state prison warden from 1883 to 1887, as Lieutenant Governor from 1889 to 1890, and as Governor from 1890 to 1891 after Charles C. Stevenson's death. He returned to being prison warden from 1893 to 1895 and as a justice of the peace from 1905 to 1909, and he died at his daughter's home in Oakland, California in 1927.
