Franco Trezza was the Interior Minister of Italy during the 1940s. A member of the Christian Democracy party, he partnered with the Sicilian Mafia boss Croce Malo to fix the 1946 general election against the Italian Communist Party and Italian Socialist Party, with Malo using the bandit Salvatore Giuliano to suppress left-wing dissent in Sicily. However, the Portella della Ginestra massacre of 1947 and other violent actions by Giuliano led Trezza to dispatch the Italian Army to hunt down Giuliano. Giuliano was ultimately murdered by his right-hand man Gaspare Pisciotta in 1950, and the military received the credit.
