Francisco Saavedra de Sangronis (1746-1819) was the Lord Chancellor (Treasurer) of Spain from 1798 to 1799 and again from 1810 to 1819 during the Peninsular War.
Biography[]
Sangronis was born in Seville and aided General Bernardo de Galvez's military campaign in Algiers in the 1770s. As a financial planner, he was sent to Havana in 1780, but was captured by the British. He spied on the British and after his release in January 1781 helped to plan the encirclement of British forces in the Siege of Yorktown in October during the American Revolutionary War.
From 1798 to 1799 he served as Lord Chancellor, but became ill and quit his post. He returned in 1810, loyal to the Bourbon government of King Fernando VII of Spain, which was forced to move to Seville due to the French invasion in 1808. Sangronis served until his death in 1819.
