Francisco Bertrand Barahona (1866-1926) was President of Honduras from 28 March 1911 to 1 February 1912 (succeeding Miguel R. Davila and preceding Manuel Bonilla) and from 21 March 1913 to 9 September 1919 (succeeding Bonilla and preceding Salvador Aguirre). He was a member of the National Party of Honduras.
Biography[]
Francisco Bertrand Barahona was born in Juticalpa, Honduras in 1866, the son of a Catalan immigrant father and a Honduran mother. Bertrand was originally a doctor before entering politics as a member of the National Party of Honduras. He served as President from 1911 to 1912 as Manuel Bonilla's puppet, resigningg in 1912 so that his mentor could take over; he served as Bonilla's vice-president before assuming the presidency upon Bonilla's premature death in 1913. In 1919, Bertrand was forced to resign the presidency and flee to the United States after unrest in his country threatened to turn into armed conflict, and he returned to Honduras in 1926, dying that same year.
