Francisca Jesus de Borja

Francisca Jesus de Borja (5 January 1498 – 28 October 1557) was a Spanish nun. She was the daughter of Juan Borgia and Maria Enriquez de Luna.

Biography[]

Francisca Jesus de Borja was the daughter of Juan Borgia, 2nd Duke of Gandia and Maria Enriquez de Luna, and she was born after her father's death. As a child, she studied Latin, the classics, the Bible, and the Holy Fathers, but she entered a monastery as a young girl rather than marry the Duke of Segorbe's firstborn. By 1511, she wore the nun's habit, and she became Abbess of the Convent of Santa Clara de Gandia in 1533. She ruled the monastery until her 1548 resignation, and she founded several monasteries before her death in Valladolid in 1557.
