Francis William Drake

Francis William Drake (1724-December 1787) was a Vice-Admiral of the Red of the British Royal Navy and the Whig MP for Bere Alston from 1771 to 1774.

Biography[]

Francis William Drake was born in Buckland Monachorum, Devon, England in 1724, the son of Sir Francis Drake, 4th Baronet. He joined the Royal Navy at age eight and served in the Caribbean during the War of the Austrian Succession, as Governor of Newfoundland from 1750 to 1752, in the Atlantic and Caribbean during the Seven Years' War, as the Whig MP for Bere Alston rom 1771 to 1774, and as a Vice-Admiral in the English Channel and at Gibraltar during the American Revolutionary War. He died in December 1787.
