Francis Rawn Shunk (7 August 1788-20 July 1848) was the Democratic Governor of Pennsylvania from 21 January 1845 to 9 July 1848, succeeding David R. Porter and preceding William F. Johnston.

Biography[]

Francis Rawn Shunk was born in Trappe, Pennsylvania in 1788 to a family of German farmers. He was originally a Democratic-Republican before becoming a Democrat, and he served in the state militia during the War of 1812 before serving as clerk of the State House, Secretary of the State Canal Commission from 1829 to 1839, as Secretary of the Commonwealth from 1839 to 1842, and Governor of Pennsylvania from 1845 to 1848. He died of tuberculosis in 1848.
