
Francis Ormand Jonathan Smith (23 November 1806-14 October 1876) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-ME 2) from 4 March 1833 to 3 March 1839, succeeding John Anderson and preceding Albert Smith. Born in Brentwood, New Hampshire, he practiced law in Portland, Maine before helping Samuel F.B. Morse introduce the electric telegraph to the United States in 1844.
