Francesco Salviati (9 November 1443 – 12 April 1479) was the Archbishop of Pisa and one of the members of the Pazzi Conspiracy. It was Salviati who was supposed to march the Pazzi conspirators' troops into Florence when the plot succeeded, but he failed to take over the city, and he was gruesomely executed alongside the other captured plotters.

Biography[]

Salviati, the Archbishop of Pisa, was convinced that he would be the next Archbishop of Florence, yet he lacked the means; Lorenzo de Medici stood in his way, and Salviati allied with the Knights Templar to get revenge. Salviati was capable of getting them influence in the Catholic Church, and so he took part in the April 1478 assassination of Giuliano de Medici and the failed attempt on Lorenzo. He was then hunted down by Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who used tips from Mario Auditore's scouts.

Francesco Salviati was tracked down to the Villa Salviati in Tuscany, the mercenary scout Pierozzo de Alberinis informed Ezio Auditore, who moved in to subdue the villa guards and kill the Archbishop. Auditore and an army of guards stormed the villa, and Salviati - wearing his night clothing and wielding a large battleaxe - was mortally wounded by Auditore during a sword fight. Salviati told Ezio that Jacopo de Pazzi knew that Ezio was coming for him, and that he was emerging from the darkness to meet with the other conspirators. Salviati refused to tell Auditore exactly where Pazzi was meeting, and he died in Auditore's arms.
