Fouad Abou Nader (27 June 1956-) was the leader of the Lebanese Forces from 1984 to 1985 during the Lebanese Civil War, succeeding Fadi Frem and preceding Elie Hobeika.
Biography[]
Fouad Abou Nader was born on 27 June 1956 in Baskinta, Lebanon to a family of Catholic Maronites. He studied medicine at St. Joseph University in Beirut and joined the Kataeb Party in 1974, fighting in the Lebanese Civil War and rising in the ranks of the Lebanese Forces. Abou Nader was seriously wounded several times, and although he supported Michel Aoun's liberation war against Syria, he was opposed to Samir Geagea's war with the Lebanese Army, which he saw as fratricide. Towards the end of the civil war in the late 1980s, he lost power as Geagea and Elie Hobeika launched a rebellion against his leadership, and in 1985 he was forced to cede the leadership of the LF to Elie Hobeika. After the assassination of Prime Minister Rafic Hariri in 2005, he supported the riots that forced the Syrian Arab Army to withdraw from Lebanon.
