Fosco of Rialto (15 October 732-28 May 779) was the Marshal of Venice and a member of the College of Cardinals.
Biography[]
Fosco was born on 15 October 732 to a family of lowborn Catholic Italians in the Republic of Venice, and he became the Bishop of Rialto. He was later elected to the College of Cardinals, and Doge Maurizio of Venice appointed him as the Marshal of Venice. In 770, Fosco proved his loyalty to the House of Galbaio when he took part in the planned assassination of Doge Teodato of Venice, who succeeded Maurizio on his death. Fosco died on 28 May 779 of the great pox, and his successor was Mayor Eriprando of Rialto, formerly the patrician of the House of Monferrato.
