
Forres, formerly known as Forais, is a town in Moray, Scotland, located 25 miles northeast of Inverness and 12 miles west of Elgin. A royal castle was founded at Forres during the 10th century, and the castle was the site of King Duncan I of Scotland's murder by Macbeth in 1040. Forres became a royal burgh in 1140, and its population grew during the early 21st century, reaching 12,587 residents in 2011.
