Flavio Acosta

Flavio Acosta (died 1988) was a Colombian National Police colonel from Antioquia. In 1985, Pablo Escobar threatened Acosta into regularly accepting bribes from his Medellin Cartel and becoming his informant in the police. Acosta frequently used his powers to warn Escobar of impending raids or to stall any police action through bureaucratic methods. In 1988, he was replaced by Gregorio Sepulveda, and he was fired from the National Police after the Monaco Building bombing revealed that Escobar had lived in luxury in Medellin despite Acosta claiming to his superiors that Escobar was never in the city. After being fired, he met with Escobar and asked for work, but Escobar refused to help him. He later warned the Cali Cartel that Escobar would plan to hit them back, as he was aware that Pacho Herrera was responsible for the attack. Acosta also offered to betray Escobar's secrets to the Cali Cartel in exchange for a monthly deposit in his overseas bank account. However, he was shot dead by Medellin sicario John Jairo Arias Tascón at a fruit market before he could betray Escobar.
