The Five Pillars of Islam are five mandatory acts in Islam that form the foundation of Muslim life. One is shahada (declaring "There is no God but God, and Muhammad is the messenger of God"); the next is salah (praying five times a day); the third is zakat (compulsory giving); the fourth is sawm (fasting during Ramadan); and the fifth is making the hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca).
