Alabama Whitman

Alabama Whitman (1968-) was an American prostitute from Tallahassee, Florida and the wife and accomplice of drug dealer Clarence Worley. In 1993, Worley married her and killed her former pimp Drexl Spivey to protect her from her former life, only to accidentally steal a large suitcase full of cocaine belonging to the Mafia. This forced Worley and Whitman to go on the run to Los Angeles, where they failed to sell their cocaine to film producer Lee Donowitz due to a three-way shootout between the LAPD, Donowitz's bodyguards, and the Mafia which left almost all the participants dead. Worley and Whitman were able to slip away in the midst of the chaos and escape to Mexico, where Whitman gave birth to their child, Elvis.

Biography[]

Alabama Whitman was born in Tallahassee, Florida in 1968, and, in 1993, she left home and traveled a great distance to Detroit, Michigan, where she found work as a call girl in the employ of pimp Drexl Spivey. On her fourth day, she was hired by the owner of a comic book store to sleep with his employee Clarence Worley, her third customer, and she met him at a marathon of Sonny Chiba Street Fighter movies, where she purposefully spilled popcorn on him to enable her to sit next to him and talk with him. They spent the night together both at Whitman's comic book store and at his apartment, where they made love, and Whitman developed feelings for Worley, causing her to confess that she had been hired by Clarence's boss as a birthday present for Clarence, who was unsuccessful with women. Alabama then confessed that, in spite of only knowing Clarence for one night, she loved him, and she promised to never lie to him again. Worley was calm about Alabama's revelation and decided to marry her immediately.

A few days later, Worley, having grown jealous of Drexl Spivey breathing the same air as him, and thinking that he could easily get away with murdering a pimp due to the police's apathy towards criminals like him, decided to prove his ability to protect Whitman by retrieving her belongings from her former pimp. Whitman warned Worley about men like Drexl, but Worley was determined to bring Whitman back her belongings, and he had her write down her former address so that he could confront her employer. Worley drove over to Spivey's den, where he shot Spivey and his bodyguard Martin and had another prostitute give him a bag full of Whitman's belongings. Whitman cried upon seeing Worley return home, but she told him that she found his actions incredibly romantic, and they kissed. However, they found out that the bag, supposedly full of Whitman's belongings, instead contained a large amount of cocaine which Spivey had stolen from two African-American drug dealers he had shot. Worley decided to approach his father Clifford Worley, a former policeman, for help, and Alabama took a liking to Clifford, who eventually grew fond of her as well. Clifford ultimately agreed to help Clarence find out if the police knew of his responsibility for Drexl's murder, and he discovered that the police believed it to be gang-related due to Drexl's ties to the Mafia boss Blue Lou Boyle. The two newlyweds then left town, planning on going on honeymoon to Los Angeles, where they would stay with Clarence's old friend, the actor Dick Ritchie. Meanwhile, the Mafia discovered Clarence's responsibility for Drexl's murder after finding his driver's license on Drexl's body (Drexl having taken it from Clarence during their fight), and they interrogated and killed Clifford before discovering Ritchie's phone number pinned to Clifford's fridge.

Clarence and Alabama met up with Ritchie and pitched the idea of a drug deal to him; they planned to sell $500,000 of cocaine for $200,000, and to do it with a high roller who would be prepared to buy all of the drugs in one transaction. After some consideration, Ritchie agreed to put them in contact with his associate Elliot Blitzer, an actor and protege of film producer Lee Donowitz, who trafficked drugs for Hollywood celebrities. Worley and Whitman then moved to the Safari Motel, and they joined Ritchie in meeting with Blitzer at an amusement park, where a reluctant Blitzer put them in contact with Donowitz, who agreed to a drug deal at the Beverley Ambassador.

While Clarence went out to buy lunch the next day, mobster Virgil Cammarota entered the Safari Motel and sat down in Worley and Whitman's motel room, having been led there by Ritchie's drug-addicted roommate, who believed that Cammarota was their friend. Whitman initially pretended to be a different woman who was married to a football player, but Cammarota was unconvinced, and, after feigning kindness and attraction to Whitman, he savagely beat her and failed to obtain any information from her. Ultimately, he concluded that she was hiding the cocaine under her bed, and, while Cammarota knelt down to grab the cocaine, Whitman grabbed a corkscrew. She pointed it at Cammarota, who briefly aimed a gun at her before deciding to let her have a shot at stabbing him in the chest. Instead, Whitman stabbed him in the feet, and Cammarota and Whitman engaged in a violent struggle. Cammarota pushed Whitman into the bathroom, but she threw soap in his eyes and was able to retrieve Cammarota's shotgun and shoot him several times. Traumatized by the attack, Whitman proceeded to repeatedly bash him with the butt of his shotgun. When Worley returned home, he embraced Whitman and drove her to Los Angeles International Airport, where they set up a couch just outside the airport gates and hid out; Worley then stitched up Whitman's wounds.

Not long after, the time came for the drug deal to go ahead, and Whitman accompanied Worley, Ritchie, and Blitzer to the Beverley Ambassador hotel to meet with Donowitz. The deal went sour after the LAPD raided the suite due to Blitzer turning informant, and the Mafia also arrived with the goal of retrieving their drugs. The standoff devolved into violence when Donowitz lashed out at Blitzer for betraying him, leading to LAPD Detective Cody Nicholson shooting Donowitz dead. A three-way shootout broke out, with Whitman crawling on the floor for cover, Worley initially remaining in the safety of the bathroom, Ritchie escaping the suite, and almost all of the participants in the deal being killed. Whitman grabbed a gun and shot Detective Nicky Dimes after he shot Worley in the eye, and she managed to grab Worley and escape with him and Donowitz's suitcase of money. The two of them then drove across the border into Mexico, where they went into hiding along the Pacific Ocean, and Whitman gave birth to a son, Elvis.
