Flag of Michigan

Michigan is a state in the Midwest region of the United States, located along the Great Lakes. Its name means "large lake" in Ojibwe, and it covers both the "Lower Peninsula" in addition to the "Upper Peninsula", which is linked to the Lower Peninsula only by the Mackinac Bridge. In 1762, Great Britain seized Michigan from France after the French and Indian War, and it became a territory of the United States in 1783 after the American Revolutionary War; in 1805, the Michigan Territory was formed, and on 26 January 1837 Michigan was admitted to the union as the 26th state. General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler were all based out of Michigan, turning it into a center of the automobile business (its largest city of Detroit prospered from this), while Lansing is more administrative. In 2015, the state had a population of 9,922,576 people.
