Aethelhere of East Anglia (592-15 November 655) was King of East Anglia from 654 to 655, succeeding Anna and preceding Aethelwold.
Biography[]
Aethelhere was born in 592, the nephew of King Raedwald of East Anglia and the brother of Anna of East Anglia and Aethelwold of East Anglia. He succeeded his slain brother Anna as King of East Anglia in 654, and, in 655, he was one of thirty noble warlords who joined with King Penda of Mercia in an invasion of Northumbria. In the Battle of the Winwaed, King Oswiu of Northumbria decisively defeated the allied army despite the odds, and Penda, Aethelhere, and almost all of the other warlords were slain.
