The 2017 Ameca shootout occurred in Ameca, Jalisco in 2017 amid the Mexican Drug War. The Mexican Federal Police cracked down on the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in its home state of Jalisco, flooding the state with 340 policemen. The CJNG responded by sending 410 cartel gunmen from Guerrero to recapture their lost home base, resulting in a massive shootout between the cartel gunmen and police. The shootout left 300 cartel members and all 340 police dead in one of the bloodiest clashes between the law and the cartels yet, and the cartel retook possession of its home state.
