
Fernando Serrano (30 May 1789-15 February 1819) was President of the United Provinces of New Granada from 16 July to 16 September 1816, succeeding Custodio Garcia Rovira and preceding Simon Bolivar.
Biography[]
Fernando Serrano was born in Cacota de Matanza, Viceroyalty of New Granada in 1789, and he practiced law before joining the patriotic movement in 1810. He served as Speaker of the Supreme Junta before joining the republican army and fighting at the siege of Mensuli in 1812, capturing Bucaramanga. He briefly served as President in 1816 before being deposed by Jose Antonio Paez as Venezuelan forces took charge over the Neogranadine patriot cause. He continued to serve in the army, and he was gravely wounded during the Colombian War of Independence and died in 1819.
