Fernando Xalvador Delgado (1936–28 February 2004) was the boss of the Delgado Cartel in Chile from 1990 to 2004. An ex-Chilean military official, Delgado took over the Cartel after his brother died at the hands of the Colombian National Police, and he re-established the organization into a more legitimate business, overseeing his operations from his vineyard in the Colchagua Valley of Chile. In 2004, the International Contract Agency sent Agent 47 to kill Delgado and his son and second-in-command Manuel at their headquarters, and 47 garroted him to death while he was playing the cello inside his room.
Biography[]
Fernando Xalvador Delgado was born in Santiago, Chile in 1936, the older brother of his future partner in crime and fellow drug trafficker Ricardo. A staunch political conservative, he joined Augusto Pinochet's Chilean Army in 1974 after a coup d'etat, and he rose through the ranks quickly, being named a colonel and becoming ruthlessly effective in punishing Pinochet's political opponents.
After a decade-spanning military career, Delgado retired in 1990 and expanded to cocaine trafficking. He also took control of his family's cartel after his brother was killed in a raid at his compound in Colombia by the National Police, and moved his operations to the Cochalgua Valley of Chile. His son Manuel served as his second-in-command and Delgado's nephews Rico and Hector, who were based in Colombia, also worked under him. Delgado's adoptive daughter Andrea Martinez handled the Cartel's public relations, and he forced drug chemist Jorge Franco to manufacture cocaine for him after he became indebted to Delgado.
Presenting himself as an accomplished winemaker and businessman, he enjoyed playing the cello and composed several music pieces himself, one of which was played at the National Symphony Orchestra's 1994 Summer concert. In 2004, the International Contract Agency sought to dispatch Delgado and Manuel for their narcotics activities, and Agent 47 was assigned to the task.
Death[]
On 28 February 2004, 47 infiltrated the Delgado compound in the Colchagua Valley after Delgado arrived by plane to promote his new Stanton wine, named in honor of a famous American action movie actor who was invited to the unveiling. The ICA wanted to make the murder of Delgado and his son appear like a drug hit so it couldn't be traced back to them, and 47 disguised himself as private security for a chance to eliminate the two drug lords; 47 first killed Manuel and set his sights on Fernando. Delgado was playing the cello inside his room while the party was taking place outside, and 47 snuck up behind him and garroted him to death with a fiber wire.
