Ferdinand Jodl

Ferdinand Jodl (28 November 1896 – 9 June 1956) was a General der Gebirgstruppe of Nazi Germany during World War II, commanding Mountain Corps Norway.

Biography[]

Ferdinand Jodl was born on 28 November 1896 in Landau, Bavaria, German Empire, the brother of Alfred Jodl. Ferdinand Jodl joined the Imperial German Army in 1914 during World War I, and he remained in the Reichswehr after the war. In 1938, he became the chief of operations of the XII Armeekorps, and he served as the Chief-of-Staff of the XX Mountain Army in Finland from 1942 to 1944. In 1944, he was promoted to General der Gebirgstruppe, and he took command of the Mountain Corps Norway formation of the Wehrmacht. Jodl's last war command was the Narvik detachment in Norway from 1944 to 1945, and he died in Essen, West Germany in 1956.
