Federico da Lonato

Federico da Lonato (1381-1410) was a condotierro of the Republic of Venice.

Biography[]

Federico da Lonato was born in Lonato del Garda in the Province of Brescia in northern Italy in 1381, and was funded in his military ambitions by the Duke of Bergamo, a friend of his father. Lonato served Bergamo initially, but later became a mercenary leader for the Republic of Venice after they witnessed his 1402-1403 campaigns against Treviglio. Lonato was hired as a general and fought campaigns against the Duchy of Milan. In 1410, during the Battle of Calcinato, Lonato was ambushed and killed by poison darts thrown at him.
