Federico Paez

Federico Paez (4 June 1877-9 February 1974) was President of Ecuador from 26 September 1935 to 23 October 1937, succeeding Antonio Pons and preceding Alberto Enriquez Gallo.

Biography[]

Federico Paez was born in Quito, Ecuador in 1877, and he worked as an engineer before joining the Socialist Party - Broad Front of Ecuador. Paez served as a senator and Public Works Minister under President Jose Maria Velasco Ibarra, and he served as President from 1935 to 1937, drawing inspiration from fascist governments in Italy and Germany and suppressing communist agitation. He died in 1974.
