
LaFayette McMullen (18 May 1805-8 November 1880) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-VA 13) from 4 March 1849 to 4 March 1857 (succeeding Andrew S. Fulton and preceding George Washington Hopkins) and Governor of the Washington Territory from 10 September 1857 to 15 July 1859 (succeeding Isaac Stevens and preceding Richard D. Gholson).
Biography[]
LaFayette McMullen was born in Estillville, Virginia in 1805, and he worked as a coach driver before serving in the state senate from 1839 to 1849, in the US House of Representatives from 1849 to 1857, as Governor of the Washington Territory from 1857 to 1859, and in the Confederate Congress from 1863 to 1864. Afterwards, he worked as a farmer and banker, and he died in a train accident in Wytheville in 1880.
