The Faubourg Saint-Germain is a historic district of Paris, France. In its early history, the Faubourg was an agricultural suburb of Paris, but, in 1670, King Louis XIV of France initiated a project of a grandiose hospital and retirement home for aged and unwell soldiers, Les Invalides. The project was completed in 1676, and the empty spaces between Paris and Les Invalides were occupied by high nobles leaving Le Marais during the 18th century. After the French Revolution, many of the mansions were confiscated and turned into national institutions, and it became an upper-class district. As of the 21st century, it is still a very exclusive district.
