Father Sigebeald

Father Sigebeald was a West Saxon Roman Catholic priest who served the Old Minster parish in Winchester, Hampshire during the late 9th century AD. In 877 AD, he was sent by King Alfred the Great to make contact with the Viking warrior Eivor and introduce him to Alfred at his study; Sigebeald only did so reluctantly after Eivor persuaded him to not deny the pleadings of a pagan who wanted to know God.
