Farrukh Hormizd (died 631) was Shah of Sassanid Persia from 630 to 631, interrupting Azarmidokht's reigns.
Biography[]
Farrukh Hormizd was born to one of the seven Parthian clans of Sassanid Persia, the son of Vinduyih and the nephew of Vistahm. Shah Khosrau II had Vinduyih executed, and Vistahm was killed in a failed rebellion in 600. Farrukh went on to become Spahbod of the north, and, late in the Byzantine-Sasanian War of 602-28, Farrukh Hormizd and his son Rostam Farrokhzad rebelled against Khosrau II and overthrew him. This ushered in a four-year civil war, and Farrukh Hormizd became Vizier for Purandokht. She was deposed by Shapur-i Shahrvaraz in 630, but he was then deposed in favor of Azarmidokht. After Azarmidokht refused to marry him, he rebelled against her rule and deposed her, taking power as Shah. Azarmidokht later had Farrukh killed, leading to his son Rostam avenging him by killing Azarmidokht.
