Faron Young (25 February 1932-10 December 1996) was an American country music singer-songwriter. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1932 and raised on a dairy farm, he performed on the Louisiana Hayride starting in 1951, and moving to Nashville in 1952; from 1952 to 1954, he served in the US Army. From the 1950s to 1980s, he recorded hit songs such as "If You Ain't Lovin' (You Ain't Livin')", "Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young", "Hello Walls", and "It's Four in the Morning". His later life was plagued by depression and alcoholism, causing a decline in his health, and possibly motivated by his declining relevancy to country music. He shot himself in 1996.
Young was a Democrat, performing for the visiting First Lady "Lady Bird" Johnson in 1964 and at the inauguration of Democratic governor Preston Smith in Texas in 1971.
