Faqir Mohammed

Faqir Mohammed (born 1970) is the deputy leader of the Pakistani Taliban umbrella group.

Biography[]

Faqir Mohammed was born in Chopatra in Bajaur Agency, Pakistan. In 1993, at the age of 22, he was introduced to Maulana Sufi Mohammed, who educated him. Because Mohammed founded the TNSM militant group, Mohammed became a fellow militant leader.

He commanded a force of TNSM in the Waziristan War against the Pakistani government and pro-government militias, and gained the respect of many people, becoming a leader of the Bajaur Agency. In 2012, he was demoted by the Taliban because he held peace talks with the government, and was considered a "common soldier" by the rebels. On 18 February 2013 he was arrested in Afghanistan.
