
Fan Kuai (died 189 BC) was a general of the Han during the Chu-Han Contention.
Biography[]
Fan Kuai was born in Peng County, Jiangsu, and he was a close friend of fellow Pei County resident Liu Bang. In 209 BC, he took part in Liu Bang's uprising against the Qin, becoming one of his close aides and bodyguards. He became known as a mighty warrior and capable general, and he saved Liu Bang from Xiang Yu's assassination attempt at a feast at Hong Gate before actively fighting in the war with Xiang Yu. He was made Marquis of Wuyang after the founding of the Han, and he died in 189 BC.
