Fallschirmjaegers

Fallschirmjaegers landing during World War II

Fallschirmjaegers were the elite airborne infantry forces of Nazi Germany during World War II, taking part in the Battle of the Netherlands, the Battle of Belgium, the Battle of France, and the fatal 1941 Battle of Crete. Kurt Student developed the units as Germany's airborne infantry forces, but the heavy losses sustained on Crete led to Adolf Hitler banning any further parachute assaults by paratroopers, who mostly fought as light infantry on the ground from then on.
