Fabrizio Colonna

Fabrizio Colonna (1450-18 March 1520) was an Italian condottiero and a member of the powerful Colonna family of Rome.

Biography[]

Fabrizio Colonna was born in 1450, the cousin of Prospero Colonna, and a member of the prestigious House of Colonna. He married the daughter of Federico da Montefeltro, the Duke of Urbino, after murdering his wife Nannia Colonna for fornicating with Juan Borgia the Younger. After his wife's murder and his revelation of Borgia's misbehavior, Colonna was appointed Prefect of Rome by Pope Innocent VIII, appeasing him. He became Count of Tagliacozzo and Constable of the Kingdom of Naples, Colonna was also a well-known condottiero, serving at the Battle of Cerignola in 1503 during the Italian Wars. He also served as a general of the Holy League during the War of the League of Cambrai, commanding the army of the Papal States against France at the Battle of Ravenna in 1512. Colonna died in 1520, and his nephew Marcantonio Colonna would also go on to be a successful condottiero.
