Fabricio Cruz (1751-1786) was a Brigadier of the Spanish Army who was killed in the Battle of Fort de Chartres in 1786.
Biography[]
Fabricio Cruz was born in 1751 in Mexico, and he was promoted to Brigadier and given command of the garrison of Fort de Chartres in Spanish Louisiana. In 1786, he commanded the garrison when the Sioux attacked the fort, and he was killed when Chief Egushawa led his Sioux war band against his forces. Cruz was massacred with his men when the fierce Sioux warriors hacked them to death at close quarters with tomahawks.
