Fabio Ochoa Restrepo

Fabio Ochoa Restrepo (1924-8 February 2002) was a Colombian drug trafficker and the patriarch of the Ochoa family.

Biography[]

Fabio Ochoa Restrepo was born in Colombia in 1924, and he came to own many ranches near Medellin, raising more than a thousand Paso Fino horses. He smuggled television sets and Scotch before getting started in cocaine, and his sons Juan David Ochoa Vasquez, Jorge Luis Ochoa, and Fabio Ochoa Vasquez helped co-found the Medellín Cartel in 1980. The elder Ochoa collected Picasso paintings and artifacts of Spanish culture, and much of his wealth continued to come from ranching rather than crime. He was arrested in 1996 and given a five-year prison sentence in Colombia. He died in 2002.
