The Revolutionary Front for an Independent East Timor (FRETILIN) is a democratic socialist political party in East Timor that was founded on 11 September 1974 as a resistance movement to Portugal's rule over Timor. From 1974 to 1998, FRETILIN would fight for Timorese independence, first from Portugal and then from Indonesia after 7 December 1975. After East Timor gained independence, FRETILIN became a socialist political party.
