The Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) is a socialist political party in Mozambique, founded on 25 June 1962 by Eduardo Mondlane and Samora Machel. It merged several independence groups into a Marxist-Leninist group that fought against Portugal in the Mozambican War of Independence from 1964 to 1975, when Mozambique became independent; it became a political party, and in 1987 it moved towards democratic socialism from Marxism. Today, it is a major party that holds the majority of the seats in the Assembly of the Republic.
