The F4F Wildcat was an American carrier-based fighter aircraft that was in service with the US Navy from December 1940 to 1945, with 7,885 being built by Grumman during World War II. The Wildcat was slower than the A6M Zero but was more rugged, and it had a kill ratio of 6:9:1 for the entire war. The plane was used by the United States' US Navy and US Marine Corps, by the British Royal Navy, and by the Royal Canadian Navy.
