Eystein I of Norway

Eystein I of Norway (1089-29 August 1123) was King of Norway from 22 December 1115 to 29 August 1123, succeeding Olav Magnusson and preceding Sigurd the Crusader.

Biography[]

Eystein was born in 1089, a son of Magnus Barelegs and the half-brother of Olav and Sigurd. He and his brothers became co-kings of Norway on their father's death in battle in Ireland in 1103, and Eystein ruled over western Norway from Trondheim. He was a peaceful king who stayed at home to improve the country, and he won great affection among the people before dying in 1123.
