Eystein II of Norway (1125-21 August 1157) was King of Norway from 10 June 1155 to 21 August 1157, succeeding Sigurd II and preceding Inge I.
Biography[]
Eystein Haraldsson was born in Scotland in 1125, a son of Harald Gille and the brother of Sigurd Munn and Inge Crouchback. He followed his father to Norway just before the start of the Norwegian Civil War between Harald and Magnus IV of Norway, and, after his father's death in 1136, he and his brothers became co-kings of Norway. In 1155, Inge had Sigurd murdered following a dispute, and Eystein became the new senior king. However, the two remaining brothers fell out in 1157, and Eystein's army deserted him. He fled to Viken before being captured in Bohuslan and then executed by his captors.
