Ewa Nowowiejska was a Polish noblewoman and the sister of Adam Nowowiejski. Nowowiejska fell in love with Azja Tuhajbejowicz, a Tatar warrior in Poland's service who was flogged by her father for confessing his love for her. In 1672, Basia Wołodyjowska attempted to set up Tuhajbejowicz with Nowowiejska, but he instead tried to kidnap Basia. After this failed, he took out his anger on the Nowowiejski family by killing Ewa's father and enslaving her; she later ended up in Istanbul.
