Evsei Borisovich Agron (25 January 1932-4 May 1985) was the Godfather of the Russian Mafia in the United States during the 1970s and 1980s, preceding Marat Balagula.
Biography[]
Evsei Agron was born in Leningrad, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union on 25 January 1932 to a Russian Jewish family, and he came to the United States in 1975 as a Jewish refugee. Agron became involved with crime in the Brighton Beach neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City, among several other Soviet Jewish immigrants, and he was involved in the motor fuel racket; the racket deprived New Jersey of $1,000,000,000 in tax dollars every year. Agron would later have rivals as the motor fuel racket became more and more lucrative, and he was shot twice in the head outside of his Brooklyn apartment on 4 May 1985. Marat Balagula took over the Russian Mafia after Agron was murdered.
