Everett J. Lake (8 February 1871-16 September 1948) was the Republican Governor of Connecticut from 5 January 1921 to 3 January 1923, succeeding Marcus H. Holcomb and preceding Charles A. Templeton.

Biography[]

Everett J. Lake was born in Woodstock, Connecticut in 1871, and he graduated from Harvard in 1892 and worked for his father's lumber company. He served in the State House from 1903 to 1905, in the State Senate from 1905 to 1907, as Lieutenant Governor from 1907 to 1909, and as Governor from 1921 to 1923. Lake set an eight-hour workday for child laborers and barred poorly-performing students from work. He retired from his lumber company in 1939 and died in 1948.
