Evanthia Riga

Evanthia Riga (457 BC-) was a resident of Epidaurus, Argolis during the 5th century BC. In 431 BC, she entrusted her dying baby in the hands of the priestess Chrysis, who asked for her to bring a gift to Hera so that he might be protected. Chrysis attempted to burn the temple down with the baby inside of it to delay the mercenary Kassandra, who sought to kill Chrysis, but Kassandra rescued the baby and returned him to his mother. Evanthia thanked Kassandra, but told her that Chrysis was a servant of Hera and did what needed to be done, letting her religious views blind her. Evanthia thanked Kassandra once again, and she left with her son.
