Eva Braun

Eva Braun (6 February 1912 – 30 April 1945) was the mistress and, for fewer than 40 hours, the wife of Adolf Hitler. The two of them took cyanide during the Battle of Berlin in April 1945, killing themselves.

Biography[]

Eva Braun was born in Munich, Bavaria, German Empire on 6 February 1912, and she had a Catholic education. She worked with a Nazi Party photographer, starting in 1929, and she met Adolf Hitler at her boss' studio in October. After the suicide of Hitler's half-niece in 1931, Hitler began to seek Braun's company, and they became lovers after Braun feigned a suicide attempt in 1932 in an attempt to gain Hitler's attention. By 1936, she was living at his household at Berghof near the Berchtesgaden, and she took many color photos of herself and Hitler while living a sheltered life during World War II. She did not attend public events until the marriage of her sister Gretl to Hermann Fegelein in mid-1944, and her relationship with Hitler was concealed until after their deaths. In 1945, she decided to remain with Hitler in the Fuhrerbunker during his last days, and they married on 29 April 1945, Braun being 33 and Hitler 56. Less than 40 hours later, Braun and Hitler killed themselves, with Braun taking cyanide poison and Hitler shooting himself in the head.
