Eutharic (480-522) was an Ostrogothic prince from Spain who served as Roman consul under Emperor Justin I of Byzantium.

Biography[]

Eutharic was born in 480 to a family of noble Ostrogoths of the Amaling line, and he grew up in Spain. He served as a warrior and became Roman consul under Emperor Justin I of Byzantium. He married Theoderic the Great's daughter Amalasuntha to unite the Gothic kingdoms, establish Theoderic's dynasty, and solidify Gothic rule in Italy, and Eutharic sided with the Jews of Ravenna when the Catholics began to burn down their synagogues. Eutharic died in 522.
