Eustache Charles d'Aoust

Eustache Charles d'Aoust (27 February 1763 – 2 July 1794) was a General of Division of the French Revolutionary Army during the French Revolutionary Wars, fighting on the front against Spain.

Biography[]

Eustache Charles d'Aoust was born on 27 February 1763 in Douai, Kingdom of France. In 1778 he joined the French Army at the age of fifteen without pay, but on 7 October 1792 he was promoted to Colonel at the start of the French Revolutionary Wars, where it was easy for a non-commissioned officer to rise to a general in a year or so. He commanded forces on the front against Spain in the Pyrenees mountains of northern Spain and southern France and defended France against a Spanish invasion, but he was accused of treasons aggainst the French Republic and was executed by guillotine during the Reign of Terror in 1794.
